Build the Parramatta Rail Link Now!
The Carr Government first promised a Parramatta-Chatswood link in 1998, but postponed the Parramatta-Epping section in March 2001. Then Transport Services Minister Michael Costa scrapped the plan entirely. The Greens continue to lobby the Government to finish the link - and prevent the Labor Government from breaking its promise to the people of Western Sydney.
The residents of Western Sydney need as many people as possible to
tell the Transport Minister to fulfil his Government's promise!
WRITE
to Mr Campbell and tell him to commit to finishing the rail link. Below
is a suggested format for your letter, but remember personalised
letters are always best!
Minister for Transport David Campbell
Parliament of New South Wales
Macquarie Street, Sydney 2000
Dear Mr Campbell,
I
urge you to re-commit to building the Parramatta Rail Link, as put
forward in the Environmental Impact Statement. The people of Western
Sydney deserve adequate public transport. Please consider the following
points:
* Roads in the area are
severely congested, and building more roads won't fix this - it will
only add to the city's air pollution problem.
* Over the next
decade, your Government plans to spend over $3.5 billion on road
projects, not even including the $3 billion for privately-built roads.
The $1.05 billion for the rail link is a mere fraction of this.
* A busway is an inferior option, and will deter people in the area from using public transport.
* The new transport interchange at Parramatta is of limited use until the rail link to Parramatta is built.
* The rail link will vastly increase capacity on the network, freeing up the congested Inner West line.
The people of Western Sydney were promised a rail link. This is a growing, thriving area of our city that urgently needs more public transport. Deliver on your commitment and build the Parramatta rail link.
Yours sincerely,
(add your name and address)
Make your voice heard - and save our rail!
