Nash accepts Rhiannon's invitation to rural NSW debate

Saturday 14 August 2010

Greens NSW Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon is set to debate Nationals Senator Fiona Nash in regional NSW. Senator Fiona Nash today accepted Ms Rhiannon’s challenge.

Ms Nash and Ms Rhiannon are participants in a three-way race for the sixth Senate spot in NSW in the upcoming election. The other contender is Labor’s Steve Hutchins.

“I am looking forward to a debate with Senator Nash about the challenges and opportunities facing regional NSW”, said Ms Rhiannon.

“I have contacted Senator Nash proposing that a public debate take place in Gunnedah in the mid-morning of either Monday or Wednesday next week. We suggest the hour long debate consist of a 10 minute speech from Senator Nash and myself, followed by questions.

“Earlier this week I invited Nationals Senator John Williams to a debate in regional NSW following repeated claims in the media by
Senator Williams that the Greens were ‘pretending’ to care about farming to win votes.

“Mr Williams passed the baton onto Ms Nash.

“Senator John William’s attack on the Greens was off the mark and I welcome the opportunity to have a serious debate with the Nationals.

“The Greens are happy to stand on our record of working with farming communities in NSW and across Australia”, said Ms Rhiannon
