Macdonald resigns, investigation still needed
Monday 07 June 2010
Greens MP and mining spokesperson today warned Premier Kristina Keneally to not view former Mining Minister Ian Macdonald's resignation as closure and to broaden the inquiries into his travel affairs to other conduct such as his management of the V8 supercar event and allegations regarding a 'third party' in his office.
"If the Premier knows something about Mr Macdonald's behaviour as Minister that the public does not, she must not hide it," Ms Rhiannon said.
"Minister Macdonald's parliamentary career has been peppered with allegations of misconduct and mate's deals.
"The Premier should ensure all the question marks over his past actions are fully and independently explored.
"Kristina Keneally's only chance of surviving this string of ministerial resignations is if she comes clean and properly manages the fall-out.
"Unless the Premier requests that ICAC expand its inquiry from travel expenses to other matters such as the management of the V8 supercar race her credibility will be further damaged", Ms Rhiannon said.
