Greens vote can stop Abbott controlled Senate

Saturday 21 August 2010

Greens NSW Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon said today that a vote for the Greens is crucial to avoid Tony Abbott controlling the Senate.

“A vote for the Greens will help ensure that Tony Abbott’s conservative philosophy does not hold sway in the Senate,” Ms Rhiannon said.

“A strong Greens vote will put a common sense, far sighted hand on the shoulder of government.

“Tony Abbott’s mean spirited philosophy is bad news for women, bad news for the environment, bad news for asylum seekers, and will keep the brakes on Australia’s development as a good global citizen.

“The Greens will be working hard right up until the doors close on polling booths to make sure that the Senate will be looking to the future and not dominated by the Coalition.

‘We have already won so much from this campaign. More people than ever have heard our message, more volunteers have come forward to help on the campaign and more people than ever are going to vote Greens in NSW.

‘The Greens are now recognised as the legitimate third voice in our national political debate. We are experiencing strong growth in support as a result.

“It’s been a huge pleasure and privilege to be part of this campaign and I am looking forward to the result,” Ms Rhiannon said.
