A thank you message from Lee on the eve of the election

Friday 20 August 2010

Thanks to all the Greens members and supporters who have worked so hard on this election campaign.

It has been a pleasure working with all of you. All our ideas that materialised into leaflets, websites, speech notes have been generated from a fantastic collective effort.

The buzz on the Greens election campaign trail has been great to be part of.

From all the meetings, street walks, phone calls, emails and one-to-one chats I have participated in I do feel there is a shift in public understanding of our policies and how the Greens work. Our campaigns on climate change action, refugee rights, food sustainability, and public service upgrades resonate with so many.

It has been the biggest campaign we have ever undertaken, with candidates standing in all 48 House of Representatives seats in NSW.

We have campaign offices in Newcastle, Wollongong, Dee Why, Muwillumbah, Ballina, Coffs Harbour and Sydney. These shop fronts have provided the Greens with some great public exposure.

The number of volunteer hours that have been put into this campaign is once again phenomenal.

And I know this effort will go right through to the close of polls at 6 pm on Saturday August 21.

We have all worked hard to secure a Greens NSW Senate seat and sometime on Saturday night we should have a good idea of our chances and how we are going around the country.

I would like to thank you as already this election campaign has been a success. The issues we feel passionate about and our vision for a fairer, safer and more peaceful world have been conveyed to thousands of people. And we have laid a great foundation for the coming state election.

This is an election we can be proud of.
