Campaigns
From 1999 to 2010 Lee worked on a variety of campaigns across her portfolio areas. These include opposing the Game Council, abortion law reform, ending woodchipping in NSW's South East Forests and the Democracy4Sale project. Read more about these campaigns here.
Game Council: Shooters Party and Labor
Lee is a strong opponent of the NSW Game Council and is calling for it to be disbanded. The Game Council has never been self-funding as the Government said it would be, and it has not met it's objectives to control feral animals. Lee's research into the deals done to establish the Game Council in 2002 has exposed the ties between the Shooters Party MPs and NSW Labor.
Democracy4sale
Since 2001 Lee has run the Greens Democracy4sale project to expose the corrupting influence of corporate donations and push for law reforms.
End Woodchipping NSW South East forests
The Greens are campaigning to save our iconic south east native forests from destruction by closing the South East Fibre Exports (SEFE) woodchip mill at Eden.
Abortion Law Reform
Did you know abortion is still a crime in NSW, attracting a prison sentence of up to 10 years? That a woman or doctor can still be prosecuted in NSW? The Greens are calling on Premier Rees to introduce an abortion law reform bill in NSW. ![]()
No New Coal
Help the Greens stop the state government from allowing runaway coal expansion to accelerate climate change, cause major environmental damage to the earth and destroy our rivers by cracking riverbeds and aquifers with subsidence from longwall coal mining. See the health impacts of pollution in mining communities, and read why 'clean coal' is a dangerous con.
Peak Oil
Worldwide, demand for oil has started to outstrip supply. In early 2008 The Greens introduced a private member's bill, the Peak Oil Response Plan Bill, to push the NSW Government to acknowledge the peak oil phenomenum, examine the situation and plan for a measured response to the impact that peak oil will have on NSW.
Gambling reform
NSW must start treating gambling as a health issue not a revenue tap. We need to reduce the levels of gambling in our community and end political donations from pubs and hotels to the major parties. Both Labor and the Liberals have been voting together to expand gambling for years. Reform is long overdue.
Fix FOI laws
Our Government holds a vast stockpile of information generated with public money that should be available for the public good and to hold our representatives to account. But the right to access government-held information is being increasingly eroded by a culture of secrecy in government in NSW.
Nanotechnology
Nanomaterials could well be the 21st century's asbestos. Nanomaterials are already in products on NSW shelves and a report revealed that over ten thousand tonnes of nanomaterials are used in commercial production in Australia each year. The NSW Labor government is failing to keep up with this fast-moving technology.
End Pollie's Perks
Just how much does your local MP earn in pay and perks? The Greens believe the public not only has a right to know, but wants to know. The Greens have led the way on accountability. Lee Rhiannon has published her Electoral Allowance annual report each year since elected in 1999. It's time other MPs were required to do the same.No V8s
The government has approved V8 Supercar racing at Sydney Olympic Park. Hundreds of boulevard trees will be removed, residents and park visitors will face weeks of disruption and noise pollution. The Greens argue the race should be held at Eastern Creek raceway.
Stop Rail Sell Off
A century ago MPs had the vision to pass a law to provide legal protection for our rail tracks. This has meant the closure of railway lines can only proceed by an Act of Parliament, requiring debate in parliament. But the Rees government introduced new legislation that paved the way for the closure and sell off of rail lines and associated land to developers, without scrutiny.
Stop offshore coal mining exploration
Offshore coal and gas exploration is threatening our coastal environment from Illawarra to Port Stephens - Hands off our Coast! The Government should be assessing the cumulative environmental impact of these exploration licences on coastal waters of NSW, its impact on whale migration, marine life and potential pollution of our ocean and beaches.
Stop the M5 Expansion
The Greens are campaigning against the State Labor government’s most recent motorway madness, the proposed $4.5 billion M5 Duplication project. Lee is working both inside and outside of NSW Parliament and the Marrickville Greens councillors are working with the community, particularly in the Tempe area, to help fight this new motorway.
