- Final counting by the Australian Electoral Commission today has confirmed that former NSW Greens MP Lee Rhiannon has been elected as a Senator for NSW. She will take up the position in July 2011.

- Senate candidate and former NSW MP Lee Rhiannon says she will take her campaign to stop experimental offshore mining exploration to Federal parliament, following news that in mid-October Advent Energy will start exploratory drilling into the seabed 55 kms east of Newcastle.

- Lee Rhiannon, widely tipped to win a NSW Senate seat for the Greens NSW, congratulated those bringing a High Court case, which begins today, testing the lawfulness of current off-shore processing arrangements on Christmas Island. She also called on the Federal government to abide by its international obligations with regards to refugees and asylum seekers.
